I stood behind the wall shading me from my mom. I watched her wash the dishes from our early morning breakfast. Even from here I could see the loneliness in her eyes. I know my mother well and this is something I rarely saw, maybe only once in my whole life. I’m only 12, but I’m with my mom a lot. My dad died two years ago. He died in a big martial arts competition. It was all just a hoax to trap him and kill him. To save the earth my father made the ultimate sacrifice, sparing my life, and everyone else’s, but that, that, demon didn’t die with him but was still alive and ready to destroy the earth. It’s been two years and I can hardly remember what happened, just voices screaming for my dad to come back, and anger inside me that I had never felt before flowing through my veins, then I blacked out. By the time I had woken up it was all over.
Remembering my father always depressed me so I headed to go outside. Right as I reached the door I heard the screams of my little brother, and my mom’s voice, “Gohan, would you please check on your brother?”
“ Yes Mom” I answered back, turned, and went toward the baby’s room.
By the time I had reached the baby’s room the crying had gone down to a whimper. I opened the door as slow as I could so it wouldn’t make a sound, but it still creek. The sound of my bother’s crying got louder, so I quickly hurried over to the large box shape crib that was in one side of the room, opposite of the door. I leaned over the side of the tall wall to see a small figure gripping on to a little blanket made just for him. He was dressed in brightly colors from his neck down to his little feet. I stuck my arms down into the crib and pulled him out. He had rosy cheeks and big black eyes. He had black hair that stuck out in all directions. “Don’t wary Goten, it’s ok I’m here now.” He started to coo and snuggled against my chest. I smiled and took him in to were Mother was standing, still in the kitchen. “Mom I think his just hungry.” I said
“Yeah, it’s about time for his lunch, here take this, go into the living room and feed him.” She handed me a clear baby bottle with tiny blue designs on it. I did as I was told and went into the living room. I sat down in mom’s old rocking chair and feed him slowly. Goten reminded me of my father by how fast he ate; Father always ate fast and a lot. I would say Goten drank it all in about two minuets. So I went in to the kitchen to get another bottle. “Stay here Goten, I’ll be back in one sec.” I ran in to the kitchen and grabbed another one from my mom and ran back, but by the time I got back Goten was gone! I dropped the bottle in horror. I searched franticly under and around every thing in the living room, but he was no were to be found! I finally took a brake and returned to the rocker. “Mom’s going to flip.” I said under my breath. I turned my head to scan the room once more and rested my head facing the glass mirror. Reflecting on the mirror was the image of the door, and it was OPEN! I franticly ran to the cross roads of the kitchen and the doorway and slinked the rest of the way out, so my mom wouldn’t notice.
Once out side I started calling “Goten”, but it was useless. Suddenly I heard rustling coming from the bushes. I sighed with relief and walk over to the bush. “Goten you wary me to much.” I reached in the bush, but instead of feeling something soft, like clothes or hair, I felt something prickly. I pulled my hand back with pain and bit me lip so I wouldn’t scream. There were quills from a porky pine in my finger, so I gently pulled them out. A couple seconds later I heard “GOHAN! GET YOUR BUTT IN HERE NOW!” it was my mom so I ran terrified into the kitchen. When I got there my mom was holding Goten in her arms. “Why did you leave him out?! He’s not a toy to just leave lying.”
“I’m sorry mom.” I said binding my head down a little.
“He’s your bother, and don’t do it again.”
She then handed me Goten and told me to put him away in his room for his nap.
“Your such a pain!” I told him as I covered him up for his nap. “But, I still love you.” I bent down in his crib to give him a kiss. As soon as I did he cooed and feel asleep. I then walked to the door and turned off the lights. While I did I said, “Good night you little goober.” And shut the door.
